Bob Stein is the founder and Co-Director of the Institute for the Future of the Book, Bob Stein is founder and Co- Director of the Institute for the Future of the Book. The Institute is a small think-and-do tank ‘investigating the evolution of intellectual discourse as it shifts from printed pages to networked screens’. Bob also started Night Kitchen, with the aim to develop authoring tools for new generations of electronic publishing. This work is now being continued at the Institute. So.. for my comments: I liked the idea of librarians (and library staff, in general, ) being "digital life coaches", teaching patrons how and where to access the information they require, not so much of doing the research for them but setting them on a path of discovery, teaching tagging and keyword use, for themselves. A Living Library was mentioned where people come to the library on a regular basis to share their life stories with others. Phrases such as " huge shift in ways we communicate' and "navigating for information", Libraries becoming community centres with books, less quiet spaces, theres a choice of experiences. World War 1 diaries are being digitalised by the State Library of NSW, ( something to investigate and maybe blog about, watch this space) Libraries becoming internet cafes?!, good or bad |
